The midden

Second Life (SL) is a 3-dimensional virtual world which started in 2003. It can be accessed here.

My understanding of it at the moment is that it is a place where you can meet, communicate, do business , create objects (such as buildings, cars, butterflies), hold meetings, run pop concerts, buy and sell stuff such as land, services and houses. It is entirely built and owned by its residents. There are a total of 4,136,995 people from around the globe who are registered residents at the time of this post.

SL has its own currency, the Linden dollar , which can be converted to US dollars at several online Linden Dollar exchanges.
